American Chicano rock band Los Lobos to perform Nov. 21 at Goshen College

    Well-known for their version of the song "La Bamba" that was released as part of the 1987 movie's soundtrack, the three-time Grammy award winning band Los Lobos will perform at Goshen College as part of the Performing Arts Series on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall.

Goshen High School top choirs to perform for Afternoon Sabbatical Nov. 10

    The two top award-winning choirs from Goshen High School, the Advanced Crimson Choir and Crimsonaires, both directed by Marcia Yost, will perform on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. in Goshen College's Sauder Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Tickets for sixth annual 'A Festival of Carols' on sale Nov. 6

    Tickets for the sixth annual "A Festival of Carols," Goshen College's holiday music extravaganza, go on sale to the public on Friday, Nov. 6. Performances will be held on Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m.

Commemorating anniversary of Handel's death, choirs and orchestra perform Messiah concert

    The Goshen College Choirs and Orchestra will combine to perform excerpts from George Frederic Handel's eponymous oratorio "Messiah" on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall. The ensembles will be conducted by Professor of Music Debra Brubaker, Assistant Professor of Music Scott Hochstetler and Associate Professor of Music Gregg Thaller.

Alumnus Anthony Brown to perform concert for peace, Nov. 8

    Anthony Brown, an acclaimed baritone and goodwill ambassador for peace and goodwill around the world, will present a stirring evening of music with a message of peace at Goshen College in the Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.

Painter and printmaker to display Dresden images in exhibit, Oct. 30-Jan. 11

    Painter and printmaker Nicholas Hill, from Granville, Ohio, is professor of art at Otterbein College. An exhibit of his works, "The Dresden Journals," will be on display at Goshen College's Hershberger Art Gallery in the college's Music Center from Oct. 30, 2009 to Jan. 11, 2010. A reception for the exhibit will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.

Goshen College's fall mainstage play 'Big Love' to be performed Oct. 30-Nov. 8

    The stage has been converted into a huge, empty swimming pool for Goshen College's fall mainstage play, "Big Love," written by Charles Mee and directed by Michelle Milne. This whimsical, contemporary take on an ancient Greek play will be performed in Umble Center on Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 6 at 8 p.m.; Nov. 1, 7 and 8 at 3 p.m.

Chicago musicians return for hometown recital, Oct. 31

    Goshen natives J. Austin Wulliman, a violinist, and Mary Rose Jordan, a pianist, will return to Goshen College to perform a chamber music recital in the Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. As youth, Wulliman and Jordan both participated in the college's music preparatory programs – the precursor to what is now the Community School of the Arts. Wulliman and Jordan will also be joined by hornist Laura Weiner.

Alum to perform piano recital Oct. 27

    Pianist Jeffery Weaver, a 2003 Goshen College alumnus, will perform a recital in the Goshen College Music Center's Rieth Recital Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

'A Cabinet of Curiosities' on display in exhibit, Oct. 25-Dec. 11

    Dating from the 16th century, the earliest name in English for what is now regarded as a museum was "cabinet of curiosities." The term refers to a room in a wealthy person's home that displayed the owner's collection of exotic, or "curious," items.
